Nationalism
I don't think its the lack of laws enforcing Indianness. No country has even been great by enforcing nationalism on its own people. Had India tried to be strong and prosperous, its citizens would have had better unifying and diverse values.

Well, Israel for instance has made military enrolment mandatory for at least a year or two. If implemented in India, this can serve as a powerful deterrent to internal terrorism. The idea behind Hindutva is still the same in this case, although not as explicitly spelled out to be "Hindutva". Inculcating pan-nationalistic sentiment among all its citizens would certainly eliminate a host of problems that the nation currently is suffering from.

Another example being Uniform civil code opposition from minorities. Technically they aren't anywhere close to being a 'minority', it's political concocted term and used generously for political purposes.

Information of History

Are you implying hinduism is much recent to kerala?

In my information, kerala before 500 AD was a sort of dravidian place where people had no organised religion, but they worshipped their ancestors and a warrior goddess. Women drank and quarrelled. In short we can say a "Thora" (coastal) culture akin to vizhinjam, chaavakkad, mattancheri meenchantha existed them.

Into this first comes vedic aryan influences. Then arrives buddhism and jainism. Then comes judaism and later christianity and islam.

The gods and demo gods like ganapati, durga etc are comparatively recent imports. Doesnt mean wht the dravidian believed in wasnt hinduism. (though not in modern keralite form).

We can say similarly abt roman catholicism. Compare the roman church of 900 AD with that of 2001 AD. You will not believe they were the one and same organisation.

Literature Information

Has any of the 'writers' among you thought for a while as to why are you writing THAT piece of writing?

Many good authors, directors, artists or for that matter any creative "doer", who earns a great repute in his field, ends his career by "doing"(write/paint..) his own life story or snippets of it..and generally with a tragic end..but, why should we learn about others problems when we have sufficient probs of our own?

Whom is the literature intended at? (putting apart the 'enlightening' ones intended to arouse feelings of patriotism, create awareness etc. ,indeed, these are only a scintilla in the Sense-Binding 'science' of  literature)

Information about Women Honour

A very pertinent issue. Unfortunately, some people in our midst refuse to even acknowledge it an issue, but it is a huge problem, at least in Pakistan.

You are right, somehow the onus of safeguarding the 'honour' of the family always falls on the women. I suppose somehow its the legacy of the age-old traditions we have had and the notion that the men know the society better(no pun intended). So they have got to guard the womenfolk and punish the few errant and rebellious ones who challenge this belief.

The problem here is that whenever a lady wants to have it her way against the wishes of her family, her family brand here as a stigma to the family- one who has 'dishonoured' them. Somehow i don't think its because of lack of education or social awareness. You would see cases of honour killing right across the social hierarchy. SamiaSarwar was a one such unlucky 'educated' lady who murdered in cold blood at the orders of her mother in the offices of her lawyer. This was the response from the ones in our NA. Condemnable to say the least.

And the role of religion? I think the issue had more of a 'social genesis' than a religious one. Religion has just become a pawn in the hands of the perpetrators.

The sad thing is that i don't think education will help in this regard, only proactive involvement by the common man. Check this VictimsOfLaw. Some incidents where the people did win.

So where do we go form here?

Few Interesting Info of Hitler

In no way was i trying to justify his atrocities against Jews or policy of Nazism but his leadership had a positive side to it also..... If we were to keep what he did to the Jews aside then some of his policies specially his economic ones and his policy of national integration were very impressive..

Lets move on and forget about what he did to the 6 million jews ,there are positive things that we should appreciate too, we must appreciate the good work he did,why only talk negative ,it was not he who personally killed the jews, he didn't go out there and burn them ,it was basically anger at the injustice meted out to the majority population that finally culminated into this. We must forget and see the progress and development ,why nobody talks about the german women who were raped after world war 2 ,nobody talks about that .

He was a visionary and he changed the country,he brought it immense development which helped everybody and we need more people like him.

Information about Sri Lanka Resolution

What will a passed resolution do other than condemn Sri Lanka at UN? How will it help tamil civilians of Northern Lanka?

Voting for resolution will only drive India out from all the rehabilitation work it's doing in Northern Sri Lanka, rise on Sinhala nationalism and ill feelings toward India giving an opportunity to Chinese to make bases. IMO should use its goodwill and clout with Rajpaksha's govt for betterment of tamils. UN is a defunct organization anyways. Its only used by powers to get stuff done legally.

Tamil civilians had to go through worse atrocities. I think other than TN (for obvious reasons), other regions of India has either had no information or have been aloof of news coming out of Sri Lanka. I am all for bringing war criminals to justice but not by shaming SL publicly. I suspect it may harden Lankan public further against tamil minorities. I am however all for it if India offer refuge or amnesty to these civilians who want to move out.

English Novels and Writers

What I would like to point out is that the English novel as written in this epoch inherits a Spanish and French practice of narrative insertion that has little to do with the main plot. Thus, writers such as Cervantes, Sorel and Scarron would put short stories amid a longer tale, and their English admirers (such as Fielding and Smollett) would do the same. The insertions in "Joseph Andrews", "Tom Jones" and "Jonathan Wild" are not necessarily joined into the narrative web. The same is true of Smollett, above all in "Peregrine Pickle", but also in his four other novels.

I'm writing this not to say that Fielding and Smollett were not novelists, but to say that the novel in eighteenth century didn't have such a formal cohesion: it was rather a genre of relative freedom in a time when neoclassical rules had yet some hold on literature. Any consensual definition of the novel is a product of later times, a light thrown retrospectively upon an already existing corpus, and it must be as flexible as the corpus itself. There is no sense in expecting that novels were so-and-so when the writers who first brought it into being had no such concerns.

That's a reason why essentialist definitions of the "novel" are being left aside in favour of a more elastic view. Among recent studies (I mean after Ian Watt's), the two most remarkable are J. Paul Hunter's and Michael McKeon's, and they have in common this wider approach to what may or not be considered a novel. In most recent studies the place of Defoe is taken for granted, as well as that of Richardson. (Fielding, ironically, is seen as more backward than them in this front of inovation. What I would like to point out is that the English novel as written in this epoch inherits a Spanish and French practice of narrative insertion that has little to do with the main plot.
